Should You Have a Clean Room or a Close Control Room?

If you are in the process of setting up a business that requires a strictly controlled environment for manufacturing, research or any other purposes you have no doubt come across the terms clean room and close control room. Unfortunately, these terms are not always used accurately, so many people are confused by the difference between the two. At Total Environmental Kooling, we install both clean rooms and close control rooms so decided to put together this guide to help people understand the difference.

Close Control Rooms

The goal here is to control temperature and humidity, keeping them within the optimum range for the type of processes being carried out within the controlled environment. Close control rooms are designed to maintain the temperature within a set number of degrees (or fractions of a degree) of the ideal temperature and the humidity at the required level relative to the room’s maximum possible humidity. These tolerances can be achieved with a high level of precision using a combination of technologies.

Clean Rooms

Like close control rooms, clean rooms provide tightly controlled temperature and humidity levels. However, clean rooms also offer careful regulated air quality inside the space, ideal for scientific research facilities and pharmaceutical companies. Clean rooms work by filtering the air entering the space to reduce levels of airborne pollutants such as dust to acceptable levels. Air quality for clean rooms is usually measured in the number of particles per cubic metre at a specified particle size.
