How to Achieve an Effective Clean Room

Quality control is vital for many industries and organisations, particularly high-end manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and research labs. A clean room guarantees your processes will be free from contamination, but only if it works to acceptable tolerances. There are several steps to achieving an effective clean room, all of which need to work in unison.

Installation

The first step to having a good clean room is making sure you get a high quality installation. Look for companies with a strong track record and ask for references if necessary. Your clean room installation will need to meet the ISO/IEC 17025 standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), so it is important to make sure that your installer has a history of achieving this standard.

Maintenance

Your clean room will only remain effective with regular care and attention, so a maintenance contract is vital. This will usually be offered by your original installer, but if you have an older system or are unhappy with your current maintenance provider you should be free to switch. Regular maintenance not only keeps your clean room working properly, it can also save you money by preventing breakdowns which can be costly to repair and prevent normal operations being carried out.

Operating procedures

Any system is only as effective as the people who use it. To that end, it is vital to have robust operating procedures in place, make sure all staff are offered adequate training in them and that detailed and accurate records are kept to ensure those procedures are being followed.
