TEK at Trescal, Derby

Trescal are global leaders in their field of high-end dimensional calibration and measurement and work in the Aerospace, Automotive, Electronics and Pharmaceutical sectors. They have recently relocated to a new facility in Derby which required two new high accuracy calibration rooms.

The close control air conditioning system was designed and installed by TEK. The new measuring rooms were required to meet a certain specification or classification which would suit an environment where sensitive measuring equipment could be used. This would enable the high accuracy work to continue uninterrupted. The specification for temperature and humidity was to be controlled at 20°c+/-1°c with relative humidity no more than 55%.

TEK’s vast experience and numerous ‘Blue Chip’ client base within the close control air conditioning market meant that they were approached to offer the complete solution to the new facility.

Through the years, TEK have formulated a careful and precise design to assist the needs of the client, understanding the importance of selecting the precise room structure and air conditioning plant to suit the specific needs of the facility.

Trescal’s requirements

For this project, the rooms were built utilising insulated panels for the walls and the roof. The nature of this ‘sealed’ unit enabled TEK to ensure that the environmental conditions within the space were able to be maintained. Airlocks for goods entry and for personnel entry were provided. The goods entrance utilised rapid roller doors which were controlled via interlock capability.

Double glazed Windows were installed to the facility to accommodate a viewing area for visitors to look at the ‘state of the art’ calibration lab. Once the room had been constructed the air conditioning plant was installed.

With the room structure completed and the air conditioning plant and associated ductwork installed, the lighting and electrics could be positioned. The lighting utilised state of the art efficient L.E.D light fittings and the general electric layout and requirements were installed as specified by the client. In addition to the lighting and electrical work as part of TEK’s turnkey solution, all other services such as Compressed air, fire alarm, phone & data cables were installed.

Validation Process

On completing the full installation, all aspects of the project were commissioned. The A/C plant was then left running so that a thorough validation process could take place. The validation involved using certified ‘Tiny Tag’ measurement sensors. These were positioned around the room to monitor both the temperature and the humidity. The data was then collected at regular intervals and downloaded in text and graphical formats before final handover to the client.

To date, TEK have designed and installed numerous turnkey calibration and high accuracy facilities for clients in the scientific, automotive and aerospace industries. We continue to get results and maintain temperatures within a 0.2°c – 0.5°c where our specification/brief is 20°c+/-1°c.
